'Dog burgers' catch eye of pet owners in Sasebo
Bowwow Sasebo Burgers are pictured in front of an advertisement.SASEBO, Nagasaki -- A pet-goods manufacturer here has developed burgers designed especially for dogs, gaining attention from dog owners in the city.
The "Wan-Wan Sasebo Baagaa" (Bowwow Sasebo Burger) was developed by pet-goods manufacturer Mindbank. The meat in the dog burgers is a mixture of dried beef and chicken, while biscuits are used instead of bread. Pork colored with chlorophyll is used to imitate the vegetables.
Makers of the burgers decided not to use preservatives, and dogs that sampled the canine treats reportedly wolfed them down.
At 800 yen for a pack of four, the burgers aren't cheap, but company president Toshio Shimoyama urged owners to give their pets a taste.
"(This year) is the Year of the Dog. How about giving your dog a taste of the wonderful flavor of Sasebo burgers?" he asked. (Mainichi)
